In questions 11-25 you wi11 hear statements. For each question, you must choose the response that expresses the same idea as the one you heard. Responses begin on page 33.

The correct answer is (A).The expression.“to have X do something for Y,”as answer (A),gives the idea that X requests Y to do something.The meaning of the speaker’s sentence is similar:The secretary prepared the report because the speaker requested it.

In questio/ns 26-45 you will hear short conversations between two speakers.After each conversation you will hear a question about it. The short conversations use three speakers: a man(M), a woman(W), and a narrator(N). Responses begin on page 73.

Now I have to mail it to California. "
(W)"You' d better have it insured—just in case.

A.The man forgot his sister' s birthday.
B. The vase might get broken
C.The man should call his sister first.
D.She’d like to keep the vase.
The correct answer is (B).The woman suggests that the man should buy insurance for the package.This suggests that something might happen to the vase in the mail; for example, it might break.
